Social and Community Development

Rugby Resources Ltd believes that building solid, long-lasting relationships with its stakeholders in the community is of utmost importance. In fact, we recognize that many exploration and mining projects cannot survive without the support of its local communities. Rugby endeavours to be a positive influence and presence in every community where it has projects. Not only does Rugby value environmentally responsible exploration - we strive to be socially responsible. As we move forward with exploration initiatives, we intend to develop social programs designed to assist and benefit the people living in the community.

Community Development Projects

  • Rugby assisted with a medical mission and children's nutrition programs in Communities in Chocó, Colombia

  • Sponsored an indigenous school teacher and has provided school construction and materials for the Mamanwa School

  •  Participates and donates to various sporting, social and cultural events

Consultation with Ethnic Communities

Complying with internal regulations, and according to our standards, in 2013 the Company successfully negotiated a “Consulta Previa” (CP) agreement with local communities for the Cobrasco Project in Colombia. The CP is one of the most important requirements to explore our Cobrasco Project.

The CP provides support in social and environmental programs as improvement of roads, community houses, greenhouses, among others. 

The CP consultation process was carried out by Rugby, Cocomacia and local community leaders under the supervision of the Colombian Ministry of the Interior. This is the first successful mineral exploration CP to be carried out in Chocó Department, Colombia. Currently the CP is developed according to the commitments. 

The Mamanwa potable water project provides clean drinking water to over 30 indigenous families near Mabuhay, The Philippines. The program was jointly undertaken by Rugby with the Rotary Club of Metro Surigao

Consultation with Ethnic Communities

After a process of about 1 year, the Prior Consultation was signed with “el Consejo Comunitario Mayor de la Asociación Campesina Integral del Atrato – COCOMACIA” on May 23, 2013.

The community agreement provides access to the Cobrasco project for Volador Colombia, a subsidiary of Rugby Resources ltd, for a period of 10 years from the start of exploration activities.

The agreement contemplates the development of social projects in 9 communities that make up the area of ​​direct influence, with an agreed investment by the first year of about 300 million COP, in addition to about 200 million COP for other programs.

Food Safety Social Projects

 As part of our social relationship, the company strengthens the food security of some of the communities. This program includes health brigades to provide nutritional assistance for healthy nutrition.

OTHER SOCIAL PROGRAMS

Rugby provides local employment opportunities, employing more than 50 local workers directly in activities related to exploration and indirectly close to 600 people have also benefited.

Being aware of the needs of the area, Rugby has sponsored and assisted with community social development programs that include:

  • Education - School improvement

  • Environmental programs

  • Sporting events and uniforms

  • Logistical assistance for the development of community meetings

  • Food safety program

  • Emergency medical evacuations

 Additionally, the company has excellent relations with government authorities, who recognize the work done by Rugby.
